Robert Byrne - Byrne & Barnes

Robert Byrne, excellent songwriter .....

Robert Byrne established his songwriter status by 1977 American Song Festival Grand-Prix with "Bound To Know The Blues" and 1978 winning tune of the same festival "I'll Love Your Leavin' Away". Thus, Robert Byrne got a chance to release his own solo album "Blame It On The Night" in 1979 under Mercury USA. However, only several months later this album was deleted from Mercury Catalogue, which made a little bit difficult to get this album in spite of popularity among AOR/Westcoast music freaks in Japan.

Almost one year later, the album were released in Japan, this time with a revised artworks, which often were done in those days as part of a Japanese marketing strategy.

Another great Robert Byrne's masterpiece were done together with Brandon Barnes and released in 1981. The album "An Eye For An Eye" features fashionable and sophisticated pop tunes. This is the AOR and a little more sophisticated than the Westcoast pop music with a little Jazzy tastes and/or sometimes Fusion, Black Contemporary flavors.

In 2001 the japanese label "Dreamsville" did reissue "An Eye For An Eye" on CD, with two unreleased materials "That's The Way She Goes" and "Who's That Look In Your Eye" included. Those two songs were originally prepared for this album and the master tape of those materials was lost due to the fire of the studio. After Byrnes & Barnes project, we could find Robert Byrne producing works like Pointer Sisters and/or Patti Austin and his songwriting works for Pop Country singers such as Ronnie Milsap. Brandon Barnes is also known for his producing and songwriting works with Brian McKnight.
