Engqvist Orkester

The smooth groove from Denmark ....

Jazzfusion made in Denmark, yes it true. This little country in Scandinavia can also produce jazzfusion in the same level as you hear coming out of Los Angeles and New York. Engqvist Orkester is four talented musicians from the northern part of Denmark, that just has released their debutalbum "Optimism".

"Optimism" from Engqvist Orkester is recorded in studio and live at the stage, so you can catch both sides of the band at the album. To give the album some extra, Engqvist Orkester is having some great national and international guest artists that is giving the album a nice touch.

You can hear Jimmy Haslip (famous bassplayer from the band Yellowjackets), the guitarplayers Frank Gambale (Chick Corea) & Robben Ford (The Blue Line, Yellowjackets, Michael McDonald) at the album. They also teamed up with the "local hero" Troels Skovgaard (Bamboo Brothers), a very talented guitarplayer, that is playin´ with all big acts in Denmark. This is of course giving the album a very good musical touch.

The jazzscene in Denmark has always been very famous around the world, but not many musicians has been adding the word "fusion" to the musicstyle. Years back bands like Bagdad Dagblad, Music Spoken There and Countdown where there. It is great to see a band that are willing to bring the music outside Denmark, and that is what Engqvist is doing, especially with a good help from the international stars.
